A summary and link to more information is listed below.Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) Advanced Placement (AP) is a College Board program that offers Minnesota high school students the opportunity to take rigorous, college-level courses and earn college credit while in high school. The content in AP courses is structured similarly to college coursework. Students who complete an AP course and take the end-of-course examination may qualify for college credit from postsecondary institutions, provided their score meets the institution's credit policy. These courses prepare students for further education and college admissions offices often look favorably on a history of AP coursework on student transcripts. Minnesota Department of Education PSEO website College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) High school students can earn college credit by taking a computer-based test of their knowledge. The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a College Board program that allows students to accelerate their education by skipping introductory college-level courses in subjects they have already mastered through general academic instruction, significant independent study, extracurricular work or volunteerism. Minnesota Department of Education CLEP website Project Lead The Way Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is hands-on project and problem-based program for students interested in engineering, biomechanics, aeronautics and other applied math and science arenas. PLTW is a not-for-profit organization that promotes pre-engineering courses for middle and high school students. PLTW partners with public schools, higher education institutions and the private sector to increase the quantity and quality of engineers and engineering technologists. Project Lead The Way Project Lead the Way has agreements with the University of Minnesota and other major universities. The program offers the opportunity for students to take an optional test in order to earn transcripted college of engineering credits. Many of the Minnesota Colleges and Universities in the MnSCU system also have articulation agreements in place through their local Perkins Consortium to allow advance placement of PLTW students within their technology education programs. U of M Project Lead The Way College Classes Partnership in Academic Advancement (PAA) is a collaboration between Minnesota State University-Mankato and area high schools. This partnership offers qualified students the opportunity to earn university credit prior to high school graduation. PAA provides MSU approved courses in the high school setting during school hours. All PAA courses are taught by highly qualified high school instructors who are endorsed and mentored by faculty from MSU. Students who complete a PAA course receive MSU academic credit, which may transfer to other colleges and universities (acceptance of transfer credits is always guided by the policies of the individual college or university accepting the credit). Students registering for these college courses must complete an application and meet admissions criteria. Juniors must be in the top 1/3 of their class or score a 23 or higher on the ACT Seniors must be in the top of their class or score a 21 or higher on the ACT COOP (Carver Scott Educational Cooperative) Chaska and Chanhassen High Schools, through the Carver-Scott Educational Cooperative, will offer courses at Carver Scott Educational Center in downtown Chaska. Courses at the COOP give 11th and 12th grade students immediate employment skills and solid career training. Furthermore, COOP courses allow students to apply skills learned in other high school courses. Students must register for classes at the COOP during the spring registration and cannot add these classes during the school year. Post-Secondary Accreditation Students may be eligible to receive post-secondary credits for Career and Technical coursework they complete at the Carver-Scott Educational Cooperative. The following criteria apply: - Students must have enrolled in one of the CSEC Career and Technical courses: A+ Certification, Auto Mechanics, Cisco Networking, Construction Trades, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, and Photography. - Students may receive post-secondary credit at some Community and Technical Colleges as well as some private institutions.
